Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust

Letter No.:

13 Cheyne Walk

Dear Colonel Mitchell

I had no idea when I wrote to you that you would communicate with Stainer & Bell before I had mentioned the matter to them.1
All I wanted to know was what my position with regard to them was – as a matter of fact I always intended to give them the first choice (and I thought that I mentioned this in my letter to you)
I may add that I shd never have thought of taking the work elsewhere if you had not, in conversation, yourself given your opinion, as I understood, that there was no necessity for me to do so.
Yrs sincerely

R Vaughan Williams
