Letter from Ralph Vaughan Williams to Gerald Finzi

Letter No.:
July 4 [1946?]

The White Gates

Dear Gerald

The rule, I believe is, that the 2d syllable starts with a consonant - but I think there are more exceptions to than obediences.
I quote a few from Novello who I think is to be trusted in these matters. But surely B & Hawkes1 have an experienced engraver who would know all about that.
- I think Latin is different so Le Cras the very knowledgeable proofreader at Curwens told me.
You mention A. Jacob - is he back at his copying. Do let me know

Paxton for me every time2

1. Boosey & Hawkes, music publishers
2. Font, perhaps?
